Where It All Began

Back Acres Lodge is more than a retreat—it's the realization of a vision to bring leaders together in the heart of nature to strategize, connect, and grow. It all began in 2023 when Jim R. Sapp, a seasoned entrepreneur with over 46 years of experience building successful companies, envisioned a sanctuary where business leaders could escape the hustle of daily operations and focus on what truly matters: creating meaningful connections, nurturing a positive company culture, and investing in personal and professional well-being.

With a legacy that includes authoring Starting Your First Business: A Handbook for the Do’s and Don’ts of Business in 2005, Jim’s passion for fostering leadership and cultivating strategic thinking led him to acquire 160 acres of farm land overlooking the Ohio River in the charming town of Patriot, Indiana. His dream was to transform this secluded corner of Southern Indiana into a haven for innovation, collaboration, and renewal.

The journey to create Back Acres Lodge was no small feat. Infrastructure was built from the ground up, including roads, utilities, and a major bridge spanning a serene creek. By early 2025, the crown jewel of the property—a stunning 16,000-square-foot lodge—began to take shape.

Today, Back Acres Lodge is a vibrant retreat offering a harmonious blend of rustic charm and modern luxury. The property boasts a walnut orchard with over 8,500 trees, a fragrant lavender field, a peaceful duck pond graced by black swans, and a fishing pond with a serene fountain. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore hiking and walking paths, try their hand at archery or target shooting, and enjoy activities like biking, four-wheeling, and fishing. For those seeking relaxation, the lodge itself offers eleven thoughtfully designed suites, a spa, sauna, pool, game room, personal theater, and spaces to gather and unwind.
